I think it's time we told ourselves the truth, football nowaday has turned into politics, it's nolonger ones performance that counts for him or her, but rather, it's how influential he or she is that matters. Gone are the days when football award is been given on merit, today, the story have changed, it's now done on favouritism.Take for example what happened at the just concluded MTN/CAF award, where okocha, inspite of his effort and his out-of-this world display at the last cup of Nation, plus his premiership status, lost the prestigeous king of Africa football crown, to Cameroons Samuel Eto.o, whose performance at the last cup of nations was below par. If it's ones performance at national and club level that matters,then i think Okocha was robbed.At the last nations cup, we all saw how he (Okocha) carted away all that is to be won. From the 1000th goal to the tournament best player, while the self declared Africa footballer of the year (Eto.o) went home empty handed, he and his humiliated team mates. At club level, while Eto.o, relies on the likes of Ronaldinho, Deco and Guily, to make impact on the game,JAY JAY as he is fondly called by his admirers, is somewhere carving a niche for himself, taking his football to a greater height with his modest English club Bolton wanderers.
I think the battle line is now drawn betweeen the francophone and anglophone countries of Africa. Who wins determines who rules Africa football, and Caf has undermined the disarray that has rocked the Nigeria soccer house (NFA).
If nothing is done to halt this political epidemic that has taken over football in Africa, then let's spread our hands wide to embrace the disaster it's going to cause, not only to our football, but to other sports in general.
